Description

Lot #06/16 My third campaign in East Africa: a story of missionary life in troublous times by W. Salter Price. Trials & tribulations of an English missionary (of the Church Missionary Society) in East Africa in the late 1800s. Price spent about as much time corresponding with civilians, the Company, the military, as well as other missionaries, both English & German. There were problems with tribal people, officers throwing their weight around & Arab slave owners. Price had spent two previous “campaigns” in East Africa in the 1870s & 1880s, this third campaign ran for two years from 1888. A tough life that makes surprisingly interesting reading. Spine frayed at head & foot, covers stained, previous owner’s signature on verso of end-paper, foxing. Good. Reserve price: R790.00 bids welcome
