Lot #04/20 Gedenkalbum van die Tweede Vryheidsoorlog onder redaksie van J.H. Breytenbach. Incudes chapters on Piet Joubert & Botha in Natal, Cronje in the northern Cape, de Wet & de la Rey in Transvaal & Free State, the Foreign Volunteers, pro-Boers in USA, UK & Europe, diplomacy in the War, concentration camps & many more by leading experts (A.N. Pelzer, J.H. Breytenbach, J.C. Otto, Maria Hugo, G.D. Scholtz & others). Afrikaans text. Of some interest is the three each of three different current South African postage stamps of that time. Each stamp is signed by one of three members of a Steijn family (ie. E.L.P. Steijn, A.C.Steijn & W.R. Steijn). At a “geloftediens” led by Ds. A.J.van der Merwe in Uitenhage on 16 December, 1949. One of the stamps shows the Boers on trek, one shows the Boers at prayer & the third the Voortrekker Monument, which had just been completed. Cape Town, Nasionale Pers Beperk, 1949. First edition. 4to.
