A very nice copy indeed, of this major & important work on the Anglo-Boer War. Hobhouse was famous particularly for championing the Boer women & children in British concentration camps in South Africa. She wasn’t afraid to show the British public how they were mistreated. An interesting association copy. This book belonged to Ds. A.J.V. Burger, editor of Worsteljare: herinneringe van Ds. A.P. Burger, veldprediker by die Republikeinse magte tydens die Tweede Vryheidsoorlog.  Bloemfontein, Nasionale Pers Beperk, 1924. First edition. 8vo. Cloth. Pp. 158, 3 colour plates (paintings), black / white photos, portraits. Covers very slightly rubbed, at hinges near top & bottom of spine, small stain on back cover, previous owner’s signature & name-stamp (of Ds. A.J.V. Burger, Pretoria) on end-paper, foxing. VG.
